The first round of talks on the issue of Amarnath Shrine Board land allotment has failed. The all party team led by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, was unable to convince The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti about an acceptable solution. Thus, the Samiti has decided to continue the stir.
"The agitation in Jammu will continue," Leela Karan Sharma, convener of the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS), told reporters after the over hour-long round of talks. "The talks today were inconclusive. We will meet again," Sharma said adding "no new proposals" have been made to resolve the crisis.
The Samiti had earlier announced that it will boycott the talks, unless the Kasmiri leaders are kept out of it. The talks could only resume when their demand was met. As a result, Farooq Abdullah (National Conference), Mehbooba Mufti (PDP) and Union Minister Saifuddin Soz stayed away.
The Samiti is leading the month-long agitation that has gained much popular support in Jammu region.

Monika Devi cleared of charges. Another victim of bureaucratic beasts
The Indian bureaucratic beasts have done it again. First, they declared Indian weightlifting hopeful, Monika Devi as having failed the dope test. No steroid or anything was named. The weightlifter was simply held back only hours before she was to board the flight to the Olympics.
Now, Monika Devi has been cleared of dope charges. But the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said on Saturday that it was too late for her to take part in the Beijing Olympics. Another promising talent has, thus, been sacrificed at the altar of bureaucratic cannibalism.
"It is too late for Monika to come to Beijing now and take part in the Olympic Games. We have closed the entry process." IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh said.

Minorities' growth rate have done the USA in. Is it India's turn now?
The growth of the minorities, in many parts of the USA, has overtaken in such a way that the residents have been outnumbered in under 20years category in 1-out-of-4 counties. The minorities include the American Indians. However, the Mexican and the Asian population is adding up fast in these counties.
Similar is the case of India. The last census, done in the year 2000, had indicated the fact that the Muslims are growing faster than the Hindus. If the trend continues, India has real threat of becoming an almost 'Islamic State."

Congress MP demands the recall of Governor
The Congress party Member of the Parliament from Jammu, Madan Lal Sharma, on Thursday advised the Union government to appoint Karan Singh as the chairman of the reconstituted Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and hand over the land to the board to salvage the situation.
Sharma alleged that since the two Congress MPs from Jammu region, himself and Lal Singh, were vocal about their demands, they were not invited for the all-party meeting.
“Jammu was not represented in the all-party meeting which was called to evolve ways to manage the situation there. The National Conference was, however, allowed to bring in three of its party representatives from Kashmir besides Farooq Abdullah,” Sharma said.
Sharma believes the party is still playing into the hands of Kashmir-centric politicians who are the root cause of the problem. What is being witnessed on the streets of Jammu is the outburst of years of pent up anger of the people of the region. Both Jammu and Ladakh have been treated as poor cousins of Kashmir.

BJP to bring Amarnath Land issue on naional stage
The BJP has decided to move the Amarnath land-for-pilgrims case onto the national stage. The move to increase the pitch is somewhat belated given that the Jammu agitation is more than 35 days old. But BJP leaders feel the issue is fit to bring it now on the national level.
Jammu stir is a reaction to the decision of the J&K government to revoke the allotment about 100 acres of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board. It was done under duress as there were violent protests in the Kashmir Valley over the transfer of the land.
BJP seeks to identify itself with the “discrimination” against the Hindu pilgrims. This suits the party’s argument that the sentiments of the Muslim-dominated Valley are more readily catered to by the government.

Separatists under house arrest
Authorities put several separatist leaders under house arrest on Friday even as a complete shutdown crippled life here. Separatist leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Shabir Ahmad Shah were put under house arrest to prevent their proposed march to the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOG) in the vally.
The separatist leaders had announced their march to the headquarters of UNMOG to present a memorandum against the alleged economic blockade of the Kashmir valley and the harassment of the minority Muslim community in the Jammu region.
Another separatist and chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik is in the intensive care unit of Soura Medical Institute in Shrinagar after his condition deteriorated Thursday morning. Doctors attending on him said his condition was now stable.
All markets, educational institutions, banks and public transport remained closed here on Friday. Attendance in government offices was thin because of the non-availability of public transport in the city.

Curfew now in Poonch
Curfew has been imposed in Poonch town following some incidents of violence and stone pelting there on Thursday. "It is a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident," an official spokesperson said.
The protests over the land row showed no signs of dying down on Friday. Army also staged a flag march in the border town of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. There were incidents of violence and tension over the Amarnath land transfer issue.
Activists of the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS), spearheading the agitation, had on Thursday forced closure of schools, other educational institutes, government offices and banks in here. They also indulged in stone pelting on post offices and the telephone exchange in a bid to close down Central government establishments in the town.

Army warns J&K protesters
The Army said on Friday it will exercise maximum restraint and use minimum force while dealing with the agitation over Amarnath land transfer issue. But warned of tough measures if protestors try to block road and rail traffic.
No let-up in Jammu & Kashmir
There was no improvement in the situation in Jammu nor in Kashmir. The group leading the campaign for the restoration of forest land to the Amarnath shrine board in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday called for extending the general shutdown of the Jammu region till August 14.
The Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (AYSS), a conglomerate of more than 30 Hindu groups, said Jammu will observe the shutdown for six more days (till Thursday).
Jammu has been observing shutdowns since June 26, briefly interrupted for four days from July 18 to July 22. The region has also been reeling under curfews.
The necessity to "extend the shutdown was felt because the government is deaf and dumb" and has failed to hear the loud and clear sentiments of the people of Jammu for the return of the land." AYSS convenor Leela Karan Sharma told reporters.
The agitation was intensified after the government cancelled the May 26 land transfer order, allotting some 40 hectares of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

Get back together
A division bench of the Bombay High Court has ordered a couple to get back together. They had been living separately for the last 10 years.
The couple was granted divorce in 2006 by a family court on grounds of cruelty and desertion by the wife.
The couple, Deepika and Parag Surwe, got married in 1994 and lived in Vile Parle until Deepika left her matrimonial home in 1998. They have a 10-year-old daughter, Sonali, who lives with the mother.
Before hearing the case, the judges had interviewed the couple in their chamber. While Deepika said she was keen to live with Parag even after all these years of separation, the husband refused to get back together, saying he had ‘‘suffered a lot’’.

Homosexuals have some good news
The Union health minister, Ambumani Ramadoss, has advocated legalizing homosexuality. Only recently, however, his Government had passed a law relating to prostitution that makes it so easier for the police, and the like, to harass anyone in the name of protecting female sex workers.
The minister says India was witnessing a stabilisation of the HIV epidemic. And thus, his ministry favoures legalising homosexuality. It also stood for removing discrimination against other vulnerable sections in the society like the sex workers.
He says such moves will help contain spread of the dreaded HIV virus.

Durga Puja Unlimited
The famous Durga Puja festival in and around Kolkata now has a corporate look. A prominent puja committee near Kolkata has sold the rights of the celebrations to a US company and roped in a Bollywood superstar as its brand ambassador.
The entire expenses of the Badamtala Ashar Sangha Puja in south Kolkata will be borne by the US company, 'Media Morphosis.' The company will promote it in the media and on the web.
The practice so far was that a puja committee would get different sponsors, but itself manage the resources.
The organisers also have got superstar Mithun Chakraborty to endorse the puja. The moves are creating waves in the city circles. The committee have won many prizes for its aesthetic novelty in the past several years.

Good sex daily with your partner improves wellbeing
If one ever needed some proof, a recent study has been published on the beneficial effects of a happy sexual life. Call it a-good-fuck-a-day keeps the doctors away.
But care to limit this to your regular and steady partner only. Having random and changing partners never pays. Sex not only gets you in shape with better skin texture and silken tresses, it also burns extra calories, keeps you fit, combats asthma, relieves headache, reduces depression and tranquilises your mind.
Happyness hormones
It is so that 'sex' produces a number of such hormones that bring happiness. In turn it it leads to a fit body and a healthy mind.
Dr. Sanjay Chugh, specialist on sexual issues, states in a study published today, "Sex contributes to general good health. Any sexual intimacy that is enjoyable and pleasurable promotes well being by providing several physical and psychological benefits.
Even masturbation helps
It is believed that sex boosts chemicals in the body that protects us against diseases. Research also suggests that sex and masturbation can help ease joint and muscle pain, combat depression, promote heart health and lengthen one's life span." Not just this, sex also accelerates blood circulation and one's basic metabolic rate, which further enhances the well-being of our mind and soul and helps us calm down.

The Police Post
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered that a policeman turning away a person without registering his complaint could face contempt of court charges.
The court rejected the apprehensions of some counsel that an order as harsh as this could be prone to misuse. The bench said that in India, officials were activated only by the crack of a whip.

Ladies get the coverage, money goes to male stars
Tinseltown's leading ladies may generate more tabloid ink, but when it comes to blockbuster paychecks, Hollywood is still a man's town.
In an era where risk-averse studio executives have declared men the more reliable movie stars--and the more desirable moviegoers--perhaps it's no surprise that they are also the medium's top earners. The reality: Hollywood's 10 best-paid actors out-earned Hollywood's 10 best-paid actresses 2-to-1 over the course of the year.

Loosing balls on the "First Night"'
A young girl was worried as the date of her marriage neared. She asked her friend as whether her husband will know she was not a virgin.
“No way”, assured her friend, “just cry aloud as if it hurts when he pushes his dick inside you. Also use some suitable colour. We all do. I did the same.”
The girl, too, did the same. She cried aloud as his husband tried to have sex with her on the first night. After a while the husband started weeping, too. The girl was confused.
“I cried because it hurt me so much. But why did you?” The girl asked.
The husband replied. “I wept over my fate. Your hole was expected to have my dick only. But there is so much space there, even my balls were lost.”

"Supreme Court protecting corrupt judges"
The former Law Minister, Shanti Bhushan, appearing as a coucel here, remarked in the Court today that the Supreme Court was protecting corrupt judges. He quoted attempts at giving effect to an earlier ruling of 1991 to prove his point.
Visibly annoyed, Justice Agarwal offered to withdraw himself from the hearing. "If a former Law Minister and an eminent jurist like you make such allegations, we shall not hear the matter. You are not behaving like a lawyer. You are arguing like a street urchin," he said.
Justice Agarwal further said: "This is contemptuous. You cannot proceed to make remarks like this. This is an allegation against the Supreme Court of India."
But it had no effect on Bhushan who continued "Your Lordship can proceed against me. I stand by the charges."
Justice B N Agarwal, a senior judge of the apex court, thenwithdrew himself from hearing. The Court was hearing Provident Fund scandal case of Ghaziabad. The case allegedly involves, among other names, those of several sitting and retired judges.
Chief Justice Balakrishnan had earlier excused himself from the matter after Shanti Bhushan questioned the propriety of his hearing the case. Justice Agarwal is the seniormost judge in the hierarchy after Chief Justice Balakrishnan.

Romancing with public money
The relation between heart and brain has never been very useful. And when you get the powers to spend public money, you tend to prefer your hart over your brains. Therefore, the government is considering another stupid idea, namely The Right to Education Bill. It is expected to be on the agenda at next Cabinet meeting. The Bill envisages free and compulsory education to all children between 6 and 14 years.
The Bill quotes Article 21A that envisages "free and compulsory education" and provisions for "equitable quality". It envisages that government schools shall provide free education to all children and the schools will be managed by school management committees. Private schools shall admit at least 25 per cent of the children in their schools without any fee.
The government schools are facing acute shortages of students. No parents, in their proper sense, will like to put their children through such schools. Therefore, many steps, like mid-day meals, are being taken. So, government schools have been practically turned into dhabas. The latest Bill is a new step in that direction only.
Such measures have another use, too. They give ample room for the public servants, and the politicians as well, to make money on the sides. So, wait for the next move.

Hetrosexuals, please note!
A new study says heterosexual couples are at a greater risk of transmitting the HIV virus during sex.
It is said that on an average only one heterosexual transmission of the AIDS virus would be expected for every 1000 sexual contacts. If one partner was HIV positive and the other negative.
However, American researchers claim that the actual figure could be as high as one transmission for every 10 instances of vaginal sex.

BJP announces three day agitation from 11 Aug
The BJP core committee on Thursday decided to go ahead with a three-day agitation on the Amarnath land transfer issue beginning August 11. The party has made it clear they would settle for nothing less than re-allotment of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.
On the other hand, PDP and National Conference are still opposing the demands for restoration of land and recall of governor N N Vohra.
Governor Vohra had appointed a four-member committee on Wednesday night to hold talks with Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS), spearheading the agitation in Jammu.
However, the Samiti had spurned the offer of Governor for direct talks and visit to the alternative camp site.
The situation in both, Jammu and Srinagar is getting from bad to worse. Kashmiri traders on Wednesday threatend to snap all trade ties with their counterparts in Jammu.
On Wednesday, eight out of the ten members of the Amarnath Shrine Board resigned to help in reconstitution of the Board.

If you thought business meetings are what they are called, business meetings, and nothing but business matter there, think again.
Some top business professionals say the humble biscuit plays an integral role in influencing company directors, entrepreneurs and budget holders at the boardroom meetings.
A research by Holiday Inn Hotels & Resort, revealed that the quality and type of biscuits presented in a meeting can make or break a deal.
In what is considered the first ever 'Business Biscuit Study', Holiday Inn surveyed more than 1,000 business professionals across the UK. 58% of those surveyed said that the biscuits served in a meeting can "positively influence a company's first impressions" and a massive 80% said that biscuits improve the quality and outcome of a meeting.
Those in the legal profession are most likely to be influenced by a good quality biscuit (67%), followed by sales, media or marketing professionals (65%). Some 59% of public sector workers agreed that biscuits can have a 'favourable influence' during a meeting.
Overall, nearly half 47% of those quizzed thought that it was very important to serve biscuits during a meeting. Almost two-thirds (64%) confessed that the quality of biscuits offered was a matter of note or discussion. Surprisingly, biscuits were also deemed the second most important aspect of the boardroom. Behind only tables and chairs and had priority over lighting, technology and artwork.

A red-tape disaster
Thanks to the ways the bureaucrats work in India, the most precious piece of information in the Ahmedabad blast investigation is lost forever!
It is the initial few hours that could have led the cops to the terror operatives. Instead, the cops waited for seven hours for VSNL, the concerned Internet Service Provider, to facilitate this crucial probe. Just five minutes before the series of 19 blasts shook Ahmedabad to its core and left more than 50 dead, a terror mail from Indian Mujahideen reached many media houses across the country.
The crime branch immediately tried to trace the mail but it was thwarted by red tape.
VSNL took its own sweet time to comply.
"If we had got the Machine Access Code (MAC) right then, we would have been hot on trail. The information reached us only at 2.30 am! By then, it was too late. The culprits had got enough time to cover their tracks," said a senior crime branch official.

Policemen lynched
Two policemen were lynched in the Jourian Palanwalla area in Jammu today. A magisterial probe has been ordered into Monday’s police firing on protesters in Samba in which two persons were killed.
Congress leaders have suggested a compromise formula. It includes an amendment to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Act to take only State subjects on the Board. The fears of a demographic change with any land diversion to the Shrine Board could then be allayed. The agitators, however, have rejected the idea.
In Srinagar, 18 people were injured in clashes between police and agitators protesting the call to block the highway.

Situation continues to be grim
No let up in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was noticed even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had an all-party meet today in New Delhi to defuse tensions on the Amarnath land row. Situation did not improve in Srinagar, either.
The agitators were protesting against the reversal of land transfer order to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board. They removed a stretch of the railway track in Gagwal area of Samba district of Jammu. Thus, snapping the only rail link to the State with the rest of the country. They also attacked public property in some other areas.
Curfew remained in force in Jammu district and Samba, Bhaderwah, Udhampur, and Rajouri towns of the Jammu region.
Fifty-six people were injured in fresh violence in the region. In Akhnoor, 15 persons were injured when police cane charged and tear gassed a mob pelting stones. In Jourian Palanwalla area, police fired on protesters attacking and setting fire to the police station and a revenue office.

Land of widows
News reports say Japanese girls, on an average, expect to live until they are 86 years old. This would make them the longest survivors in the world.
Boys born in 2007 can expect to live to the age of 79.2, ranking third after Iceland and Hong Kong, a report said. Does it mean Japan will become the land of widows?
Japan's females have topped the world's longevity ranks for 23 years. Researchers have attributed this to their healthy diet and tight social ties, among other reasons.
The report is the latest sign that Japan is ageing quicker than any other country. Government data show a tenth of the population aged 75 years or older.

How big is a dick?
A very rich man declared he will marry only the most innocent girl. Many were interested. But none of them qualified. The man would ask the aspiring girl to come to a room and lift his dress to show his penis.
“What’s this?
The girls, obviously, blushed. This way, they failed the test.
The other day, a very innocent looking girl came for interview. She curiously looked at his penis and said, “Oh, but it’s only a dead mouse.”
The rich man declared the girl as qualified and the marriage was solemnized. On their first night, the man showed his penis again.
“This is not a dead mouse, my dear!” he said, “It’s my dick.”
“No. It’s only a dead mouse,” the girl insisted, “a dick is at least four times bigger, as most of my boyfriends have.”

Ajit Singh's progress
Ajit Singh, the leader of Rastriya Lok Dal (RLD), is a man who always is at a wrong place at a wrong time with a wrong set of people. Last heard, he was with the Communists, who recently discovered that the BSP supremo is the best person to lead India.
Now, as the BSP chief Mayawati has refused to share seats with the RLD, Ajit Singh is back at the cross roads. The plans to build a rainbow coalition in UP comprising the BSP and RLD have collapsed.
The RLD is now looking for other options.

Indian to lead Motorola
Motorola has named an India-born executive to head the company and design a popular line of cell phones. It tapped a semiconductor industry executive, Sanjay K. Jha of Qualcomm to head its troubled mobile phone division. He will share chief executive duties for the entire company in an unusual power-sharing arrangement.
He will also share the title of co-chief executive for all of Motorola with the current chief executive, Gregory Q. Brown.
For several months, Motorola has been seeking a leader who could inspire innovations in its money-losing mobile phone unit. The company had been a leader in the cell phone handset industry. But lost momentum when it’s designers and engineers failed to come up with a successor to the popular Razr phone.
Jha is an experienced operations executive steeped in the mobile phone business. His appointment is a step in the right direction. He most recently served as chief operating officer at Qualcomm, the San Diego-based maker of chips used in handsets. There he was responsible for corporate research and development. His team created advanced fourth-generation wireless technology that makes it faster to surf the Web.
Mr. Jha said in an interview that he did not know yet what was needed at Motorola to spur innovation. He said he will review the unit’s operations. “But I would not have taken this job if I did not believe in the organization.”

When Servants behave like Masters
When servants behave like masters, "even The God cannot help." The Supreme Court, observed this as it expressed its frustration over the reluctance of the Centre and state governments to take tough measures against bureaucrats and others overstaying in public accommodation.
The court wants the governments to amend laws to treat squatting in government premises as criminal trespass of public property. The army of servants, who prefer to call themselves officers, is obviously not willing to oblige and the politicians who share their loot through them only, are on their side.
The bench of Justices B N Agrawal and G S Singhvi was informed that the government has decided as not to amend the relevant Section 441 of the Indian Penal Code. Thus, overstaying in official bungalows will not be made an offence.
Following the refusal of the Centre and states to make the squatters pay, the dejected court dropped its advocacy for a stronger law.
"In our view, the stand of the Centre and the states is condemnable,” as the trend of unauthorised occupation of official accommodation, is on the rise, it said.
"The whole government machinery is corrupt. We may lay down the law, but who will implement it? It has to be done by the clerks”. The secretaries and joint secretaries have no guts to go against the clerks. The law is there, the statute is there, but the system has become non-functional," it said.
The SC, frustrated by the determination of politicians and bureaucrats to stay put in subsidised accommodation beyond their eligibility, had proposed amendment last year, saying that only "third degree method" would work with the heedless and well-connected lot.

Fight to Finish in Jammu & Kashmir
Situation in Jammu and Kashmir is taking a turn to the worst. While the death of a 20-year-old, Asif Mehraj Dar, has put Srinagar back on the boil, people continue to be on the agitation in Jammu. The number of persons killed by the police in Jammu has swelled to over 50.
It seems, the continued oppression of the Hindus over last several decades at the hands of the Muslims in the valley, has fuelled the fires in Jammu. The Shrine Land case is only an excuse to vent out their pent up feelings. They are in a do-or-die mood. And is rightly so. The records of Congress governments have never been favourable to the Hindus. Nor the BJP has done any better. So, let the people themselves settle the issue of honour and justice this time for ever.
In most of the states in India, Muslims have been given many facilities in the name of Haj pilgrimages and the like. Nowhere, Hindus have found it fit to oppose such concessions. But the Muslims in the Valley will not tolerate a "temporary" allotment of some land to facilitate Amarnath pilgrimage. And the government there would readily oblige the Muslims only.
Keep reading this post. It will continue to bring you updated and authenticated information on the issue.

A Maverick Passes Away
Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Russian writer, who died in Moscow at age 89, was one of the very few sources of first-hand information on the dark sides of the communist regime. His book, "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich," is his reveille for the world about totalitarianism.
Published in 1962, in the brief post-Stalinist thaw under Khrushchev, the novel about a prisoner in a Soviet camp made Solzhenitsyn a Russian sensation. Later, he became the country's most famous dissident as the Kremlin reverted to its brutality. Russians found in Solzhenitsyn, their own story told with clarity, courage and humanity. Ivan Shukhov's prison camp was, in reality, all of the Soviet Union. When "Gulag Archipelago," his monumental history of the Soviet penal system, was published in Paris in 1973, Solzhenitsyn made it impossible for serious people anywhere to excuse Stalin's crimes or the inhumanity of communist totalitarianism.
His documentation showed that the commissars had the blood of 60 million victims on their hands. Communism's essence was exposed in relentless detail as slavery, terror and imperialism. Expelled from his native country soon after "Gulag" came out, Solzhenitsyn's warning was also not always welcome in the West. Amid the trauma of Vietnam, many had begun to doubt the West's own moral purposes, or at least its staying power against Soviet discipline and aggression. "The timid civilized world has found nothing with which to oppose the onslaught of a sudden revival of barefaced barbarity, other than concessions and smiles," Solzhenitsyn warned in his acceptance speech for the 1970 Nobel literature prize. Sweden refused to let him receive his Nobel at its embassy in Moscow and, after his exile amid the heyday of "detente," President Gerald Ford declined initially to meet him. It was arguably the worst moment of Ford's Presidency.
For the rest of his life, Solzhenitsyn engaged in what he called "a struggle with falsehood," caring not a whit what his critics thought. His 1978 Harvard commencement speech solidified his reputation as a prickly recluse. But his diagnosis of threats to the West -- not least those from within -- remains bracing.
Solzhenitsyn warned of "an atmosphere of moral mediocrity, paralyzing man's noblest impulses," and a "tilt of freedom in the direction of evil . . . evidently born primarily out of a humanistic and benevolent concept according to which there is no evil inherent to human nature."
His own prison-camp experience after World War II, told him evil was all too real and had to be confronted.
